Privacy Policy

_Last updated: 2026-05-23_

This Privacy Policy explains what data Inclusive ("we", "us") processes when you install and use the Inclusive app on your Shopify store, and why.

The short version

Inclusive scans your storefront for accessibility issues and helps you fix them. To do that we read your store's public pages, product images, and theme files, and we store the issues we find and the fixes you apply. We do not request, collect, or store your customers' personal data.

What we access

  • Storefront pages. We fetch your public store pages (home, products, collections, content pages, cart) over HTTP — the same pages any visitor sees — to test them for accessibility problems.
  • Products (read/write). We read product images and their alt text to detect and generate missing alt text, and write approved alt text back when you ask us to.
  • Themes (read/write). We read your theme's Liquid files to detect code-level issues, and write fixes you approve — always keeping a backup of the original so you can revert.
  • Content (read). We read your pages/blogs list so those pages can be scanned.

We request the minimum scopes needed for the above and no customer or order data scopes.

What we store

  • Your store domain and app settings (scan schedule, notification email, preferences).
  • Scan results: the pages checked, the accessibility issues found, and your accessibility score over time.
  • The fixes you apply, including before/after values, so changes are reviewable and reversible (this is your audit trail).
  • AI-generated alt-text suggestions awaiting your review.

We store this in a PostgreSQL database hosted by our infrastructure provider. We do not store your customers' personal information.

Protected Customer Data

Shopify classifies certain data as Protected Customer Data. Inclusive does not request the customer or order scopes and does not process Protected Customer Data. The mandatory privacy webhooks (customer data request, customer redact, shop redact) are implemented and verified; because we hold no customer data, a customer request returns nothing to disclose, and shop redaction permanently deletes everything we hold for your store.

AI processing

To generate alt text and fix suggestions, image URLs and HTML snippets from your store are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) for processing. These are product images and theme markup — not customer data. We cache prompts to reduce processing but do not use your data to train models.

Sub-processors

  • Shopify — the platform and Admin API.
  • Anthropic — AI alt-text and fix generation.
  • Our hosting provider — application hosting and the PostgreSQL/Redis datastores.
  • Resend (only if you enable email alerts) — transactional email delivery.

Data retention

We keep scan history per your plan's retention window and delete older scans automatically. When you uninstall Inclusive, we keep your data for a short window in case you reinstall, then delete it. A Shopify shop/redact request deletes everything we hold for your store. See our Data Retention Policy.

Your choices

  • You control which fixes are applied; nothing is changed on your store without your action.
  • You can remove a stored storefront password at any time in Settings.
  • You can request deletion of your data by uninstalling the app or emailing us.
